The 2017 British Isles Plan

We have decided to travel to an English speaking part of the world this year.  We do love the challenges of trying to communicate in a different language, but thought it would also be nice to be able to speak in our native tongue for a change.  Soooo  we have decided to go to the UK, Great Britain, or whatever they are calling themselves post Brexit.  In preparation for this trip (as we do for the others) we have created an Auto Record Saved Search on our PVR for Scotland, Ireland, Wales and England.  As programming for these subjects pop up we have surprise shows to watch.  We also found a title on Netflix called “Irish Pubs”.  We watched this and were very thankful that there were captions.  The people were speaking English, but it was sooo difficult to understand them 🙂   Ah so much for the common language!!

We are flying to Glasgow on August 12th and arrive early Sunday morning on the 13th.  After we booked the flight we discovered that there is no golf normally on Sundays at Saint Andrews and that the public are allowed to walk the course.  Well we can’t pass up that opportunity.  So we are planning to get off the plane, hopefully clear customs very quickly and grab a cab to the Buchanan Bus Depot in time for the non stop bus to Saint Andrews.  We have booked 2 nights at the university so we will drop our bags and head to the course with our cameras for a walk.  We want to stay awake as long as we can so that we can be accustomed to this new time zone as quickly as possible.  Day 2 we can explore the town.

We will head back to Edinburgh for a few days before heading to Inverness, then to the Orkney Islands.  We have time to leisurely explore the area before taking a ferry to Belfast.

After some time in Belfast we will head south to Dublin.  We have some friends there and hope to connect with them while there.

From Dublin, we plan to head west to Galway and then south along the coast.  From Wexford a ferry will take us to Wales.  Then travelling  to the south of England and ultimately end up in London where we have a hotel in Soho and hope to see some theatre productions.  Our hotel is about 2 blocks from the theatre that we saw Jersey Boys in 2011.

It will be another great adventure full of trains, planes and automobiles and perhaps a bus or two!!
