June 22, 2018 – Terrace to Prince George

Last night Debbie had to work until 12:30 am so we stayed up (well Stu napped for an hour) until she came home.  We had a glass of wine with her and chatted some more.  We were pooped and headed to bed at 2am!!!  It has been a very long time since we have been up that late.  We woke up about 7am and I told Stu that I don’t think we can make a 7 hour drive to Prince George today  🙁

After we had the Minhinnick Thursday Breakfast Special of coffee and toast we head off towards Prince George to see how we make out.  This is the route.

This is a some of the sights we see along the way.

We are still driving Highway 16, the Yellowhead Highway, the Highway of Tears.  We see numerous billboards like this.  It is believed that more than 40 women have been murdered along this route since 1969.  It is the 720 km stretch between Prince Rupert and Prince George.  Many of these women are First Nations.  We have heard of this highway, but seeing these billboards reminds us of the tremendous personal heartache these families have.

We see a rain shower to the south of us.  We hope that our route will take us past the shower.  Not to be 🙂

Not long after we are heading into the sunshine with the rain storm in the rear view mirror.

We are almost to Prince George so we decide we will make it.  Stu is hanging in there.  We find this deteriorating little cabin as we are nearing the city.

Along the way we booked one of the Sandman Hotels in Prince George.  We have a place to stay, yeah!!  After our late night last night it is dinner and an early night for us.

A surprisingly not exhausting drive!!
